On Thursday 4th June I entered my first cycling road race. This was held on the test track at the Ford Dunton site. After a slightly shaky start I managed to stay with the pack for the entire race, and even had enough left after an hours racing for a sprint and a reasonable finish. I got 8th out of 46 riders. It was a good day for the Essex Roads CC with Rob Young winning, Trevor Phillips 5th, myself 8th and Ben Sayles in 9th.
Sleep just wasn’t going to happen afterwards! I spent half the night staring at the ceiling….maybe the caffinated energy gels were not such a good idea for an evening race. There are another 5 races in the series which I plan on entering.
