Hannah and Richard married at the wonderful Gaynes Park in Essex on a rather wet August day. The weather certainly was not going to spoil anyone’s fun…Hannah had a huge smile on her face all day.

It was a pleasure being there wedding photographer for the day and battling with the elements!

After a busy weekend photographing weddings in both Surrey and Hampshire, it was nice to come back to Essex for the wedding of Samantha and Peter at Layer Marney Tower. I have worked at Layer Marney before, but this was the first time I had been the photographer for a wedding in the Layer Marney Church.

For a while the sky looked incredibly threatening, and I thought a wet wedding plan was going to have to be put in action. But luckily it all blew over and the weather held.

Many of the guests had traveled from Shri Lanka and Australia to celebrate the day with Samantha and Peter.

Simon Carr Photography: Essex wedding, Becki and James at Leez Priory

Becki and James wedding at Leez Priory in Essex marked the start of a very busy weekend for me. I had 4 weddings to photograph in a row including some traveling to Surrey and Hampshire.

Becki is a former student of Cambridge University, and James is an Irish lad from Belfast…amazing, the same as my couple Jennifer and Andrew from the week before!

Leez is a beautiful venue. it’s one of those places where I like to find something a little different for the portraits. There are some great Ivy covered walls and ancient doorways hidden away from view. I always give my clients the option of a more documentary style coverage with very few set pieces, or to spend maybe 15 minutes shooting some artistic portraits to work alongside the natural candid images. The guys were quiet keen to do this and have something a little extra that would look great on the lounge wall.

This was a hot day. I’m thinking of asking couples if they mind me wearing shorts on days like this!

Sarah and Tom married at Theydon Garnon Church, then held their reception at the beautiful Gaynes Park in Epping.

The wedding was skillfully themed with a ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Tea Party look. Sarah is an Art Director, and used her graphic abilities to great effect. Infact, I seem to shoot an awful lot of weddings for couples who come from advertising and creative backgrounds.

I myself am a former Art Director before moving over to the other side of the camera, so I always enjoy photographing a wedding with an ad agency crowd.

The first of my two weddings this week was at the beautiful Leez Priory in Essex.

Lesley and Nick opted for an outside ceremony under the towers. It was touch and go with the weather, but clearly someone was on their side as things brightened up in time for the service. This kind of situation is very tough to photograph as the light values differ greatly between the shade under the tower, and the hard sunlight outside…but, I like a challenge!

After the open air service, and after all of the guests had congratulated the happy couple, we went up into the tower to use some stunning window light for a quick romantic portrait.

Another fine day at Gaynes Park over the May bank holiday, where I was the wedding photographer to Sarah and Ian. I work at Gaynes Park on quiet a regular basis, I always try to find new angles for portraits on every visit. This keeps things fresh and challenging for me!

I had two visits to Gaynes Park over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The first was the wedding of Sarah and Jannich who had travelled all the way from Singapore, with many friends also coming from Denmark. Eyjafjallajökull…(no it’s not a spelling mistake, it’s a volcano!) tried to scupper their plans, but failed miserably. I think just about everyone made it to Sarah and Jannich’s day, and had a wonderful time.

Julie and Sam married at St Mary’s in Maldon, Essex. After the service we took the opportunity for 10 minutes of portraits in great light on one of the Thames barges, before the guys left to meet their guest at Layer Marney Tower.

This is typical of how I work as a wedding photographer. Most of my coverage is natural documentary photography, but if requested I’m always happy to quickly produce a few funky portraits.

Bryony and James wedding photography at Crondon Park, Essex

On 30th January I was the wedding photographer for Bryony and James at Crondon Park in Essex. A very cold day, but the quality of the late afternoon light made up for the chill.

The guys own an uber cool original VW Beetle that has been in the family for some years…so we braved the freezing temperatures and bagged a few shots just before sunset.

Happy New Year to you all.

My 2010 started on the 2nd of January with the wedding of Josie and Paul. A very cold start to the year, but luckily no more snow!

Josie and the girls got ready for the big day at The Essex Golf Club, assisted by my good friend, and wonderful hair and make-up artist Gail, from Blushing Brides.

Paul and Josie had an idea to use the nearby Chappel viaduct for some portraits after the church service. This required us to work swiftly, as the last of the days light was beautiful but was fading fast when we arrived!
